18k gold-filled 1.8mm paperclip oval click hoops, 14.5x10mm

$48.00

Materials: 18k yellow gold-filled

Hinged elongated huggie hoops, made from 18 karat yellow gold-filled. 14.5x10mm hoops.

The post has a nice satisfying *CLICK* into the hinge catch. Over time, if your hoop doesn’t have that satisfying click when you close them, most likely you need to lift your post EVER SO SLIGHTLY. It’s probably not hitting the sweet spot since you have opened and closed, and pushed a tiny bit too hard when closing them, etc. They aren’t broken, your post was just pushed down. This trick works with most hinged post earrings. Go slow, take your time, you don’t need pliers to bend it. Just use your thumb and lift less than you think, then a little more, etc until you get that good click closure again. Or bring them into your favorite jeweler and ask them to help!

Ps. **TRUE Gold-filled means 5% gold (in whatever karat the item says), bonded over brass. This basically means a very very heavy plating of gold over brass…generally, 3-10x any other ‘gold-plated’ anything. Gold-filled items have the MOST gold of any jewelry, second to solid gold. Gold-filled is NOT a new concept. I personally have a dope sterling and gold-filled cuff bracelet watch from my great great aunt from 1940. But, all gold-filled is not created equal, and as of the last 5+ years that gold jewelry has become popular, combined with the internet, shit is not reliable sometimes. True gold-filled items can keep its gold for YEARS, depending on the care, pH of the wearer, oils in the skin, SLEEPING IN THE JEWELRY, etc. Friction is the enemy of anything ‘plated.’ Don’t sleep in it. Don’t fidget with it. Don’t shower with it. Drop it in a cup of dish soap and warm-hot water for 10 minutes once a month, rinse it, don’t rub/touch it. (Oils and sweat are sticky. Dirt clings to sticky. Then as you wear the jewelry and move, the dirt—tiny rocks—basically grind and scrub into the metal…mini sandpaper taking off your gold.)

But also, sleep in your jewelry, swim, workout, who cares. Wear it like you love it, but know that a new pair of Jordans will last way longer if you keep them in a box and wipe them down every night after you wear them. But that’s boring.

***Still on my soapbox….

PSA: Websites that say “TARNISH FREE/WATERPROOF/HYPOALLERGENIC ETC ETC ETC” when pertaining to any gold jewelry, are lying. Those words are misleading. Solid gold in any karat other than 24 karat pure gold, tarnishes over time. Waterproof just isn’t a term anyone in the actual jewelry industry uses. Again, PURE 24 KARAT gold is water resistant, but the other alloys that are mixed with it to create 10k, 14k, 18k etc, react to water, and can discolor. Hypoallergenic is also infuriating as a term used for jewelry. The word technically means ‘less likely to cause reaction,’ but there isn’t an actual formal testing level for something to be classified as hypoallergenic. And again, PURE 24 KARAT GOLD is thought to be a metal that causes the actual least reaction, but we don’t generally make jewelry from 24k because it’s too soft. I know people that are allergic and react to 10k, 14k, 18k gold. This means they are reacting to the other metals alloyed with gold, to bring it down to 10k, 14k, etc. (think of the letter K or ‘karat’ meaning percentage/parts of 24. 18 karat means 18 of the karats are gold, the other 6 karats are other alloys—to make it stronger, and water it down to be more affordable. 14k gold means 14 of the karats are gold, then the other 10 karats are other alloys/metals.)

Gold-filled means there is a brass/copper core (generally) beneath the gold…many people have a reaction to both of those metals. So again, I would never say hypoallergenic.

But these hoops, and all the gold-filled jewelry Vent carries, aren’t your average internet jewelry. We buy direct from the manufacturer. (We don’t buy from “designers” that buy from the same manufacturer, but then add a branded tag to the piece, then charge 3x because it’s “their” design, loosely use the terms gold-filled, and then can’t answer manufacturing questions.)

Still reading??? Lots of words, but really good info so you can be a more educated consumer!

If this item isn’t in-store, it may take an additional week ish to ship out.
